Our Singers

Hailing from Ipoh, Kae Wai’s love for music began at an early age. Her passion for music has led her to obtain her Bachelor’s of Music Degree (BMus) at UCSI University majoring in Contemporary Music while also studying classical vocals and music composition. Upon graduating she worked as a music composer at a jingle studio producing music for TV commercials, movie soundtracks and radio jingles. Her notable works include an orchestral piece for the BMW 5 Series commercial aired in China, which was recorded with the live performance of the principal violinist and cellist of the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra. As the conductor of the Kuala Lumpur Gospel Hall Children’s Choir she has led a production of a virtual choir performance for Christmas during the Covid-19 Pandemic. She was also a part of the Cempaka Performing Arts Company, Musica Music Academy and YinQi Choir.

She graduated from University of Malaya as a Law degree holder. Despite that, she has never given up her dream in singing. She received vocal training under the guidance of her vocal teacher, Stephanie Wong Jy Yiing. She had some experience singing in the Mendehlssohnchor Malaysia. This year, she had an opportunity to sing and perform in Handel’s Messiah Concert as conducted by Caeleb Tee. Currently, she is also a member of Yin Qi Choir.

She has also performed with Yin Qi Choir, with notable repertoire such as Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, Handel’s Messiah, and Mozart’s Great Mass in C minor. She was also a member in Yin Qi Chamber Singers. Stephy is also actively involved in piano accompanying, currently an accompanist for Old Klang Road Logos Presbyterian Church Choir.

However, singing has always been a part of her everyday from the time she could speak. As a child, after winning a Christmas karaoke contest singing, of all things, ‘I Saw Mummy Kissing Santa Claus’, Andrea was enlisted as a psalmist for church masses. Years later, she would find her way into church choirs and musical theatre productions, wishing she has time for more. When not terrorising neighbours with singing at home, she crochets, tends to her plants, reads fiction and comics, or indulges in a lot of TV. The 12-Tone Ensemble is her first foray into the semi-professional scene, and she looks forward to more performances with the group.

She has sung with The Philharmonic Society of Selangor, La Voce Choir, Vox Suara, Holy Rosary Church Brickfields, and the Lollapalooza Singers; taking on diverse repertoire from Gregorian chant to contemporary a cappella. She has performed in events such as Video Games Live, sung in festivals abroad at Singapore’s Esplanade and Japan’s ACT City, and as a solo performer, won the Best Newcomer award during KLPAC’s Short+Sweet Musical 2019. An avid supporter for all things choral, she works behind the scenes for events such as the Malaysian Choral Eisteddfod and various choral concerts in KL. Outside singing, Yuanyann is a freelance writer, translator, audio editor, and social community manager.

In 2023, she was actively involved in various performances, such as St. John Passion (1725 version), Opera L’elisir d’ amore, and Malaysia Christian Musicians Concert Series – Conducting.In 2022, she also involved in performances, such as Hadyn’s Nelson Mass, Malaysia Christian Musicians Concert Series – You Shall Sing a Song, John Rutter’s Requiem, and Out of the Depths – Bach Cantata Lecture Concert Tour & Bach Pictorial Biography Book Launch. In 2021, Sabrina graduated with a Diploma in Piano Performance under the instruction of Ms. Chee Su Yen at Akademi Seni Budaya dan Warisan Kebangsaan (ASWARA). At present, She is pursuing a Degree in Piano Performance at ASWARA.

She then decided to join Yin Qi Chen Xi choir in year 2019 and Yin Qi Sacred Music Ministry in great masterpieces such as Handel’s Messiah, John Rutter-Requiem, Haydn-Mass for troubled times (Nelson Mass) and a festive choir member for St Matthew Passion.

Music. His interests range from Early Music to the works of the 21st century with a growing interest for pre-Renaissance choral music as to works by James Macmillan. In recent years, after an epiphanous experience of Western monasticism, Isaac has been a keen student of Gregorian Chant Semiology and is passionately devoted to the performance of Chant. Currently, he sings at mass on every first Sunday in Holy Rosary Church in Brickfields where Gregorian Chant and polyphonic motets are sung in their proper context. Together with his fellow choristers, he hopes to usher a delightful return of the treasures of Western Sacred Music to its rightful place in the Liturgy.

As a chorister, he has sung with Gondwana National Chorale, Adelaide Festival Chorus, Elder Conservatorium Chorale and St Peter’s Cathedral Choir. He has performed alongside the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra Beethoven 9, Carmina Burana, A Child of Our Time and a choreographed Verdi Requiem in collaboration with Ballet Zürich (Adelaide Festival 2023). Tommy studied viola under the tutelage of Keith Crellin OAM at the Elder Conservatorium of Music in Adelaide. He was a 1st Prize winner at the Adelaide Eisteddfod Concerto (2017) and has played professionally with Adelaide Baroque, Selangor Symphony Orchestra, Yin Qi Orchestra and the Wicked Music People among others. Tommy holds a Master of Music in Conducting from the Elder Conservatorium and has trained with and assisted major Australian orchestras including the Adelaide, Tasmanian and Queensland Symphony Orchestras.

Mark’s musical experience has roots in his earlier involvement with the prestigious Philharmonic Society of Selangor, where he honed his skills and contributed to the rich tapestry of classical music. His leadership abilities shine through his role in directing various church choirs, instilling a deep sense of passion and devotion in the church choir setting. Mark’s current musical aspiration revolves around upgrading and upskilling himself which led him to the exciting world of the 12 Tone Ensemble, a challenging and avant-garde realm where he seeks to further enhance his skills and discover new dimensions of vocal expression.

He enjoys spending his time singing hymns and sacred music, indulging his taste buds as a coffee enthusiast, and cross-cycling country routes on stationary bikes.

He sang with the Yin Qi Chamber Singers in 2022 and with the Malaysia Bach Festival Singers & Orchestra in the Bach St John Passion (1725 Version) concert tour as a baritone in 2023 and in the “Out of the Depths” Bach cantata lecture concert tour as baritone soloist in 2022. He also won numerous awards in multiple classical voice competitions in Malaysia. He obtained Bronze Prizes for the national levels of the 45th & 43rd Malaysia National Voice Competition in 2019 and 2017. In 2018, he also participated in the 4th Chin Yong Youth Vocal Competition and received a Bronze Prize.

Jason graduated with a Bachelor of Classical Music (Hons) from UCSI University with first class honours as a double-major student in voice and piano. Under the guidance of Prof Ian Lim Kean Seng, he has also travelled together with the UCSI Chamber Choir to participate in numerous choir competitions overseas. Jason served as the section leader of the bass section of the choir from 2017 to 2019. They won gold prizes for competitions in Vietnam, Taiwan, Europe, and competed at the Grand Prix level of the Czech Olomouc Choir Competition.
